Hoddle Street – raw in memoriam accounts published accurately 30 years hence by a good young journalist

‘Keith Halge was 19 and working at the petrol station just metres from where Knight began to fire at people.  He ran outside with his head ducked and ushered customers and passers-by inside.  “There were about 20 people in there as it all unfolded,” he says.  “The gunfire went on for a while. It seemed like an incredibly long time.”  His most vivid memory is of 18-month-old Adam Skinner, who sat covered in blood on the station shop step with his father. “He sat in a dressing gown on the steps into the shop,” Mr Halge says.  “It was very sad. His mum was in the car 10 metres away.”  Tracey Skinner, 23, had been shot dead in the passenger seat of the family car.  Her son was sitting on her lap at the time.  The car ended up parked at the petrol station.  “It was horrific.”
